Every journey begins with a quiet call—a feeling that there is something just beyond what we know, waiting
to be discovered.
Inspired by the storytelling traditions and living arts of Bali and the wider Nusantara, Beyond the Batik is a 14-week creative arts adventure where children follow that call into imagined worlds of pattern, shadow, movement,
and performance.

WHO CAN JOIN Children ages 6–11 No previous drama or arts experience needed—just curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to explore.

Ages 6–8
Mondays · August 31 – November 30
4–5 PM
A playful, movement-rich exploration of imagination and storytelling.
Ages 9–11 Tuesdays · September 1 – December 1 4–5:30 PM
A collaborative theatre-making journey with deeper character development, devising, and creative ownership.
About the Program
The story begins in a beautifully patterned batik world, where a young animal lives within the woven fabric of its home. It is a world of stillness, design, and meaning. Yet within its beauty, a curiosity begins to grow—a sense that something else exists beyond the edge of the cloth.
When the animal follows this feeling, it steps into new worlds: the shifting light and sound of shadow theatre, and the vibrant, living world of drama, dance, masks, and music.
With each encounter, children discover that every world has its own way of seeing, communicating, and belonging. Like many stories from across the Nusantara, this is not a journey of leaving home behind, but of expanding what home can mean.

Collaborative creation
Guided by the principles of See, Imagine, Become, and Wonder, children build confidence, creativity, communication, empathy, and imagination in a playful and supportive environment.
The Explorer’s Journal
Throughout the program, each child keeps a Dimensional Explorer’s Journal, capturing their discoveries through drawing, writing, and creative reflection.
The journey concludes with a sharing performance, celebrating the worlds the children have created together and the journey they have taken as young artists.
