About the Process:
It occurred to me one fine day that my heart is full of riches due to my friends. Feeling the fullness in my heart, I began to write poetry. I decided to focus in on one friend and see what I felt about her, in connection to her. In doing so, a poem flowed like a river onto the page. Then another and another, each reflecting different fiends, different relations.
On a different day, weeks later, I pulled out my coloured pencils and embarked on a mandala journey. I wanted to use the format of a simple circle with the same recycled paper and media to explore what I was doing with the poetry.So, I jumped into the mandala creation. As I created, the colours began to speak to me and the shapes and lines drew themselves with reference to my felt sense of each of you. Over weeks the colours took on a special resonance within as did the shapes and lines. The mandalas became a language for me; a language of a felt sense of all my relations.
Later, I decided to experiment with experiences in places, mostly natural places and experiences that moved me deeply. So you see, near the end, some of the mandalas reflect my sense of different trees, stones and places.
This life is so rich and the exploration of our experiences through the arts is a nourishing process for me.
